SAT exam information along with test dates and deadlines is important to keep in mind when applying to colleges
Keeping abreast of SAT exam informationand deadlines is crucial if you are thinking of applying to a college. Nearly 2 million students take either the SAT I (the SAT Reasoning Test) or SAT II (subject) tests each year. The SAT is one of two widely used standardized tests for US college admissions: the ACT (American College Test) is the other. Some schools prefer one test over the other; some will accept scores from either test; and some schools do not require standardized test scores at all. Check the application requirements for the schools you are applying to.
FAQ's ABOUT the SAT EXAM
- When is the SAT given?
-
The test is administered seven times a year--in October, November, December, January, March, May, and June--on Saturday mornings.
- If I didn't mail in a registration form, may I still take the test?
-
On the day of the test, walk-in registration is available, but you must call ETS in advance. You will be allowed to take the test if space is available.
- How important is the SAT and how is it used?
-
It is critical! Although colleges may consider other factors, the majority of admission decisions are based on only two criteria: your SAT score and your GPA.
- How many times can I take the SAT?
-
Many students take the test in their junior year to get the feel of the test. They then have an idea about their strengths and weaknesses and can prepare throughly for the final taking of the test in their senior year. However, you can take the test as often as you like, but some schools will average your scores. You should call the schools to which you are applying to find out their policy.
- How will my score be calculated if I take the test more than once?
-
Your score report will show your most recent test score plus up to 6 additional SAT Reasoning Test scores and 6 additional SAT Subject Test scores.
- Can I cancel my score?
-
Yes. You must notify ETS within 5 days after taking the test in order to cancel your score.
- Where can I get the registration forms?
-
Most high schools have the forms. You can also register for the SAT tests online
